At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, industrial architecture in Vojvodina experienced rapid progress, which is a reflection of the regional development of Austria-Hungary, of which Vojvodina was a part. In addition to food production and production of construction materials, a special type of economic development was the construction of infrastructure systems: a network of roads and railways, canals and ancillary facilities for the regulation of watercourses (pumping stations, constitutions, locks, bridges). 

Pumping station Plavna "was built in the period from 1090 to 1912, at one time it was a significant step forward and a unique example of its kind, in technical and technological terms, in the entire Balkans. The pumping station is characterized by significant stylistic elements of Art Nouveau, as well as traditional rural architecture and crafts. and dominates the surrounding rural landscape.
